Solar thematic park at La Moncloa
Furthering its commitment to promoting the use of Renewable Energies, and with the support
of the IDAE (The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving [Instituto para la
Diversificación y el Ahorro de la Energía]), the government is once again furthering the
use of non-contaminating energy sources and sustainable development. The agreement, signed
in May, 2007, dealt with the implementation of the following cutting-edge Solar
Installations, which were designed and built by Isofoton:
1) A 5 kW Solar Photovoltaic Installation with a concentration module (Solar Tracking
System – tracker -) for the production of electric energy.
2) A 77 kWth Solar Thermal Installation and 35 kW of absorption machine for the cooling and
heating of the Security Building of the Complex (Edificio de Seguridad del Complejo)
[Solar Cooling Technology].The building has a glass façade facing west, causing the users
to suffer conditions of extreme heat, especially on summer afternoons.
These two new installations are added to the Photovoltaic Pergola, opened in 2000, to form
the so-called “Solar Thematic Park at la Moncloa” (Parque Temático Solar de La Moncloa).
It is a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System of almost 500 m2, and an installed power of
41.4 kWp. This translates to an equivalent savings on conventional electric energy,
reducing annual atmospheric emissions of CO2 by 44 tons.
