The concept of social action at Isofoton did not develop as a new attitude towards thinking about its business, but rather as a product of a shared experience that has been reflected upon over many years.
Since its founding, the experience that the company has gained in the area of development of Rural Electrification projects has allowed it to observe the needs of the populations in developing countries over time. It has also seen the enormous potential that Solar Energy has to alleviate the vulnerable circumstances of the rural populations of Africa or South America, and to offer the basic conditions for their development.
Therefore, when it came time to design their own model of social action, the company tried to avoid conventional philanthropic approaches based on financial contributions to third parties.
Action, according to Isofoton, is considered to be an intersection between social priorities and the strategic interests of the company, an intermediary space that needs to favor the synergies between both spheres, and which should produce positive and tangible effects in both directions in order to guarantee its sustainability.
Thus, the company’s approach consists of generating solutions that bring together, in one sole program, the individual environmental benefits that Solar Technology allows for with the creation of social value in especially vulnerable populations.
